Salah Excluded as FIFA Announce Best Men’s Award Shortlist

FIFA have revealed their three nominees for The Best award with Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk who are ready to vie for the award. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been dropped out of the list.

The iconic Egyptian star was named on the 10-man shortlist for the prestigious accolade, which recognizes the best male player over the last 12 months.

 The Best men's award shortlist:

Virgil van Dijk, Netherlands

Sadio Mane, Senegal

Mohamed Salah, Egypt

Harry Kane, England

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal

Lionel Messi, Argentina

Matthijs de Ligt, Netherlands

Frenkie de Jong, Netherlands

Kylian Mbappe, France

Eden Hazard, Belgium

Van Dijk, could be considered as a favourite to be crowned as the world's best footballer after his previous inpidual award after winning the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool.

Lionel Messi has been tipped as the second-favourite for the award after winning La Liga with Barcelona - scoring 51 goals in all competitions in 50 appearances.

Messi also claimed La Liga's Pichichi award for the league's highest scorer with 36 goals in 34 appearances while notching his 400th goal for Barcelona during the 2018/2019 season.

Ronaldo won the Serie A title and Italian Super Cup in his debut season at Juventus, while he scored 28 goals in 43 club appearances.

The Portuguese captain also lifted the inaugural UEFA Nations League trophy, while finishing as the tournament's top scorer.

The final shortlist will include three names for each of the following awards:
