Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and a prominent presidential candidate, was killed by gunmen in the city of Zintan on Tuesday, according to a statement from his political team.
The political team formally announced his martyrdom this Tuesday afternoon, following what they described as a "treacherous assassination" carried out by unidentified assailants at his residence.
According to the official statement, four masked gunmen stormed his residence and disabled surveillance cameras in a calculated attempt to conceal their crime.
The statement noted that Saif al-Islam engaged in a "direct and heroic confrontation" with the attackers before being fatally wounded.
