Said EL-Artist is an Egyptian percussionist, and probably the most famous "Tabla" composer in Egypt.

During his career, he was able to establish a new musical genre from that oriental instrument until he managed to become a solo artist.

Said embraces educating new generations of amateurs through the Center for Talent Development in Cairo and Alexandria.

"I learned the 'Tabla' since I was 7 years, and so my band includes percussionists from the age of 4 to 45 years," Said said.

He chose his band from workshops, which he admires, as it will 'commemorate my memoir more than my music'.

As for his band, it contains a large number of females. It was difficult to see an Egyptian girl playing the 'Tabla' for its association with belly dancers and indecency, however, this idea began to disappear.

"Through my artistic career, I have performed Tabla on well-respected stages such as the Opera House and the American University in Cairo (AUC) and Arab operas and therefore many parents find joy watching their children and their talents in those concerts," Said pointed out.

"The girls in the band are university students or ones, who work in prestigious jobs and even some of them have become celebrities such as Asala.

Said added that the first obstacle for a female percussionist is the physical strength, yet, today we find powerful ladies, who have the strength and determination as well as great rhythmic sense.

Nowadays, Said has Tabla schools in Japan, the US, Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine.

"There is a lot more interest for the Tabla abroad as it is considered different and unique from the Western or African drums," he noted.

In Greece, there is a factory that produces Tabla from gold inscribed with his name, in agreement with the manufacturer, estimated at 1000 euros each, as it is a masterpiece adorned with arabesque and seashell.

"The Tabla communicates directly with the human heart and accompanies its beats, addressing the first sensory memory in humans associated with the heartbeat of the mother, the first safety catch for a child," Said pointed out.

"It is the most popular musical instrument in the world and remains the most important one. The melody is adjusted on its beats and the singer develops his performance from its rhythms," he added.

Said plays regularly behind most of the artists in Egypt and the Arab world such as the renowned singer Mohamed Abdo and Asala, which he composed the percussions for "Bint Akaber".

He also participated in "Ya Bta'a El- Neanaa", "Khatwa" and "Meet Wesh" of Tamer Hosny and Diab, in addition to all of Samira Said's latest album "Superman" as well as all the famous songs of Kadim Al Sahir.
