South Sudanese authorities received on Thursday the first patch of the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative.
The total number of the received doses today was 132 thousand AstraZeneca vaccine doses, in addition to receiving 132,500 syringes and a number of boxes for cycling the injection tools safely.
The South Sudanese Health Minister Hon Elizabeth Achuei explained that this shipment is the first of 800,000 doses.
She said: “The COVID-19 vaccine will help us to protect our population against COVID-19 infections and prepare for a return to a normal life. We are grateful to all partners for their support in facilitating the arrival of the vaccines in our country.”
Next week, the earliest vaccination campaign against COVID-19 will kick-off, it will include medical staff members and the elders.
