S. Korean Envoy Visits Egypt's Space Agency

On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, South Korean Ambassador Hong Jin-Wook went on a visit to the Egyptian Space Agency(EGSA), which is a  public economic authority established in August 2019.

Hong's visit came after receiving an invitation from Dr. Mohamed Qousi, CEO of the (EGSA).

During the visit, the ambassador met with the Al-Qousi and a number of Egypt's space experts, to discuss ways to boost cooperation between the two countries in space-related matters.

They also highlighted the latest developments in the space industry in South Korea with references to the productive capacities of Korean firms in the field.

The Korean Ambassador also toured the agency’s facilities, which included a visit to the AIT building and the agency’s laboratories, in addition to the space city and the headquarters of the African Space Agency currently under construction.

Ambassador Hong expressed his happiness to visit the agency, praising the exerted efforts and the agency’s capabilities.

He stressed the importance of the space sector and the need to push forward space cooperation between the two countries, especially as Korea designated Egypt as a priority country for Official Development Assistance ODA for the coming 5 years.

In this context, Ambassador proposed inking a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the space-related agencies in both countries, pointing to the possible trilateral cooperation in that field especially with Egypt’s ongoing collaboration with 5 African countries.

Further, the Korean high-ranking official suggested other cooperation projects including the development of a space application for educational purposes, serving not only Egyptian students but also those in the African countries.

On the other hand, Al-Qousi thanked Ambassador for his visit, which reflects the close and continuous relations between Egypt and Korea extended for more than 25 years.

The Egyptian official also gave a detailed explanation for the agencies’ activities and possible areas for collaboration in the field of space science and technology sector that he hoped to be realized in the near future.
