South Korea has launched a nationwide emergency operation in response to days of relentless rainfall that have triggered severe flooding across the country, leaving at least four dead and displacing over 5,000 residents.

President Lee Jae Myung, during a visit to the central emergency headquarters, called on all government agencies to deploy maximum resources to curb further damage.

The national disaster alert has been raised to its highest level amid forecasts of continued heavy rain.

The floods coincide with Korea’s annual monsoon season, which runs from late June through July and is marked by intense rainfall and high humidity.

Authorities are now focusing on safeguarding vulnerable communities and bolstering disaster mitigation infrastructure as adverse weather conditions persist.
