Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds will star in the Paramount Pictures comedy movie "Boy Band".
Reynolds will also produce the movie alongside frequent collaborator Shawn Levy.
The "Deadpool" star is also attached to produce the project via his Paramount-based banner, while Levy, is producing via his 21 Laps Entertainment and is eyeing the project as a potential directing vehicle.
Levy and Reynolds have worked together on several movies, including "Free Guy" and "The Adam Project", and are currently in prep for "Deadpool 3", which will shoot in London this spring.
Along with starring and producing duties, Reynolds also co-wrote the movie along with Andrews Reynolds, who originated the story.
He is hoping to slot Boy Band for a fall 2023 or early 2024 shoot on his calendar.
Details of the project are being kept under wraps, but it can be described as a boy band reunion movie. The reunion of musical acts from the late 1990s or early 2000s has proven to be fertile ground for comedy, with the Peacock series "Girls5eva" being a notable example.
Levy may direct, having already been set to reteam with Reynolds for "Deadpool 3", which is soon heading into production.
Reynolds most recently starred opposite Will Ferrell in Apple TV+’s acclaimed musical comedy "Spirited", based on Charles Dickens’ classic novella, A Christmas Carol.
Prior to that, he starred in Levy’s "The Adam Project" and the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed "Red Notice", which in the last two years have established themselves as two of the most watched titles in Netflix’s history, as well as Levy’s Oscar-nominated box office hit,"Free Guy".
Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth for "Deadpool 3" will have him sharing the screen with Hugh Jackman, who is back to the comic-book sphere as Wolverine, and The Crown‘s Emma Corrin.
The threequel is slated for release on November 8, 2024.
