Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, and Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative, are on their way to Kyiv today. Eduard Heger, the Slovak Prime Minister, is accompanying them.

Before the Stand Up for Ukraine donor conference in Warsaw on April 9, EU leaders will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Roberta Metsola, the Speaker of the European Parliament, paid a visit to Kyiv last week.

Today's conference, according to Slovak Prime Minister Heger, would include ideas to aid Ukraine's European perspective by forming a reform team, as well as options for exporting Ukrainian crops, especially wheat.

Notably in retaliation, Russia expelled two Irish diplomats on Thursday, according to a statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry summoned Irish Ambassador Brian McElduff, who gave a stern statement condemning “the unfriendly and motivated steps taken in March by the Irish authorities, who ordered the departure of four workers of the Russian Embassy in Dublin.”

The ministry also urged that Ireland remove all restrictions to the Russian Embassy’s work immediately, citing the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations as precedent.

“If Ireland’s harmful policy toward Russia continues, Dublin should have no doubt about Moscow’s readiness to respond proportionately to any unfriendly actions,” the ministry stated.

In March, Ireland expelled four Russian ambassadors in protest of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began on February 24.

The war has sparked international outcry, with the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom, among others, imposing harsh financial sanctions on Russia.

According to UN estimates, at least 1,611 civilians have been killed and 2,227 have been injured in Ukraine, with the exact figure expected to be much higher.

According to the UN refugee agency, more than 4.3 million Ukrainians have fled to neighbouring countries, with millions more internally displaced.
