Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow Won't Use Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexei Zaitsev said today (Friday) that Russia will not use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Zaitsev told reporters that Russia's use of nuclear weapons, a risk that Western officials have publicly discussed, does not apply to what Moscow calls its own military operation in Ukraine, Reuters news agency reported.

William Burns, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), said on April 14 that given Russia's setbacks in Ukraine, "none of us can underestimate the threat posed by a potential resort to tactical or low-yield nuclear weapons.
