Russia is preparing to launch a project to compile a comprehensive index of Persian manuscripts preserved in its libraries, following an agreement reached with Iran. IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS, reports this.
The decision was announced after a meeting between Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Abbas Salehi, and Denis Tsypkin, Director General of the National Library of Russia, as reported by BRICS TV.
Salehi described the National Library as “a treasure and heritage of humanity,” underlining its role in advancing Iranian studies. He also highlighted the importance of the evolving Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between Russia and Iran, noting that cooperation on manuscripts offers a valuable opportunity for both sides.
For his part, Tsypkin affirmed the library’s commitment to strengthening cultural and academic ties, expressing readiness to facilitate exchanges between leading scholars and young researchers from both nations, according to IRNA.
The collaboration will also involve the Institute of Manuscripts of the Russian National Academy of Sciences. The joint initiative aims to catalogue Persian manuscripts across Russian collections, improving access for researchers and enhancing the preservation of these historical resources.
