Russia has announced that it will host the world’s first nuclear summit next month, a historic gathering scheduled to take place in Moscow on September 25.

The head of the state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, revealed the plans during commemorations marking 80 years since the founding of Russia’s nuclear industry.

He stated that the summit will focus on nuclear energy, including peaceful applications of atomic technology.

Likhachev also stressed the importance of strengthening Russia’s nuclear shield in the face of mounting geopolitical threats.

He described the country’s nuclear arsenal as both a shield and a sword that guarantees national sovereignty. He added that further development of this deterrent capability will be necessary in the coming years.

The announcement highlights Rosatom’s transformation from a secret weapons program into one of the world’s largest nuclear energy corporations.

The upcoming summit is expected to bring together international stakeholders to discuss energy, security, and the future of nuclear technology.
