Dmitriy Polyanskiy, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN warned the United Nations that suspending Moscow from Human Rights Council may have serious consequences for the UN System.

On Thursday, the UN General Assembly is expected to decide to suspend the activities of Moscow in the UN Human Rights Council.

A draft resolution was prepared in this regard by a number of Western countries, including the US, Ukraine, and Latvia, and this step is supposed to come against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

Polyanskiy pointed out that the upcoming vote is not related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, or alleged Russian human rights violations, describing these allegations as unconfirmed and unsubstantiated.

“Given the increase in counterfeiting and provocations, this is a premeditated tactical move,” he added.

The first deputy mentioned that Russia plays an important role in Human Rights Council and suspending it will deprive developing countries of strong protection.
