Official Pakistani statistics revealed that Russia has topped the list of major grain suppliers to Pakistan, with the quantity of wheat purchased from Russia in March reaching about half a million tons.

According to available data, Russian grains now cover 70% of the Pakistani market's consumption.

In the previous year of 2023, Russia increased wheat exports to Pakistan by 5.5 times, reaching 1.6 million tons valued at $568.3 million.

During the first quarter of this year, deliveries nearly doubled compared to the same period last year, totaling one million tons valued at $296 million.

In March alone, sales reached a record level of 478 thousand tons valued at $139 million, with the Russian share of Pakistani imports reaching 70.5%. In 2022, this percentage was 24.6%, according to the Russian news agency "Novosti".

Pakistan settled the value of Russian grain imports in the first quarter, dividing payments equally between Emirati dirhams and dollars.

Additionally, the dirham was used for the first time to pay for this product in November of last year.

It is worth mentioning that Russia achieved a new record in grain exports in the first half of the current agricultural year from July 2023 to June 2024, according to the Grain Exporters Union.
