Today, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin revealed a measure to support the domestic tourism sector, amid intense pressure facing the sector over pandemic fears.

Mishustin said that the Russian government will partially reimburse the tourists for their expenses when making a tourist trip to specific areas in Russia.

He added that the government will return between 5 and 15 thousand rubles (about 211 dollars) to the tourist as compensation for a portion of his expenses when he resides in specific areas in the country.

He explained that the amount will be determined based on the region that the tourists will visit and on the tourist trip.

The Russian Prime Minister indicated that the government has allocated for this approximately 15 billion rubles (about 211 million dollars).

He pointed out that the government has provided financial aid to the tourism companies worth 3.5 billion rubles to face the consequences of the coronavirus crisis, as tourism is one of the economic sectors most affected by the crisis.

The PM's announcement came today, Wednesday, during his presentation of a report to the Russian State Duma on the performance of the government in 2019.
