Russia is preparing to simplify visa procedures with Arab countries in a bid to boost economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people connections, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a meeting with Arab journalists, reported by TV BRICS siting the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov confirmed that preparations for the first Russia–Arab summit are nearly complete, with new dates to be finalized soon.
He emphasized that Moscow’s relations with Arab states continue to expand across all sectors, from trade and technology to culture and tourism.
Addressing the prospect of visa-free travel for Bahraini citizens, Lavrov said the issue is under review, noting the strong partnership between Russia and Bahrain within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Trade between Russia and the League of Arab States has exceeded US$34 billion, marking a significant rise compared with two decades ago. Lavrov attributed this to the growing influence of Arab nations in shaping a multipolar world order and the success of joint economic initiatives.
Beyond traditional energy cooperation, Russia and Arab countries are enhancing collaboration in agriculture, nuclear energy, education, and tourism. Lavrov highlighted Egypt’s first nuclear power plant as a leading model of peaceful nuclear cooperation.
He also noted the increasing number of Arab students studying in Russia under government scholarships, along with expanding tourism and cultural exchanges such as the Russian Seasons festivals held across Gulf nations.
Lavrov reaffirmed that Russia remains committed to deepening its strategic partnership with the Arab world through greater economic integration, cultural collaboration, and improved travel opportunities.
