Russian authorities have issued a tsunami warning along the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, urging residents to stay away from beaches and low-lying areas after a powerful earthquake struck the region on Saturday.
Emergency services declared a state of high alert following the quake, which registered 7.4 on the Richter scale.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the epicentre of the earthquake was located about 112 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional administrative capital, at a depth of around 39 kilometres.
Officials in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, home to the Russian Navy’s Rybachiy submarine base and Yelizovo Air Base, reported no immediate injuries or damage in the aftermath of the tremor.
The Kamchatka Peninsula, situated in Russia’s far east and known for frequent seismic activity, experienced a series of five strong earthquakes on Saturday, the largest measuring 7.4 magnitude.
