Russia Strategic Military Partner for Egypt: Sisi

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 1st African-Russia summit hosted in Sochi from Oct.23 to 25.

At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi hailed the bilateral ties between Egypt and Russia at all levels, within the framework of the comprehensive strategic agreement signed between both countries in October 2018.

Moreover, Sisi noted that Egypt is looking forward to enhancing and developing these relations in all fields and aspects.

“Russia has been a traditional military partner of Egypt for decades,” the president said, underlining the importance of enhancing the military cooperation between Cairo and Moscow.

Regarding the Russian industrial zone in Egypt, Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian state is interested in the speedy completion of the procedures necessary for the establishment of the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal axis and the completion of the employment contract drafting.

The Egyptian president noted that Egypt was keen to fully coordinate with the Russian side for the success of  1st African-Russian summit, in light of the huge participation of African countries.

Moreover, he expressed hope that the summit would set future perspectives for the relationship between Russia and African countries, within the framework of the mutual benefit principle.

Sisi noted that African countries are looking forward to Russia's contribution in supporting development efforts in Africa as well as the financing and implementation of infrastructure projects in the black continent, especially power generation and linking roads' projects.

“This is our third encounter, I am very happy, you are more than welcome,” Putin said, expressing happiness over Sisi’s participation in the Russian-African summit.

Moreover, Putin referred to the cooperation between Egypt, and Russia in counter-terrorism and trade fields, as well as the establishment of Al-Dabaa nuclear power plant. In this regard, Putin revealed that $190 million has been dedicated to the infrastructure of Al-Dabaa nuclear project.

Noteworthy, the first African-Russian summit kicked off, earlier Wednesday, under the slogan of “Russia and Africa: Uncovering the Potential for Cooperation”.

The three-day summit is co-chaired by Sisi and Putin.
