The Russian Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that its air defense systems intercepted and shot down 113 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions during the night.
The ministry stated in a report that Russian air defenses successfully thwarted an attempted attack by Ukrainian forces using drones on targets within Russian territory.
According to the ministry, the air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 113 drones, with 73 of them being downed over the Belgorod region, 25 over Voronezh, 14 over Kursk, and one over the Bryansk region.
Meanwhile, NATO's newly appointed Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, pledged continued support for Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership and assured the country of the alliance's commitment to securing its victory against Russia. During his first official visit to Kyiv since taking office earlier this month, Rutte held a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he stressed NATO's unwavering support for Ukraine.
Rutte emphasized that it was crucial for him to make Ukraine his first visit to send a clear message to the Ukrainian people and the world that NATO stands by Ukraine. He also announced the formation of a NATO body aimed at coordinating security assistance and training, which would help ensure Ukraine gets the necessary resources in its fight against Russia.
Additionally, Rutte praised the announcement of further military aid to Ukraine from several NATO allies, including nearly $8 billion in support from Washington. He noted that allies had agreed to boost their defense production capacity to help rebuild Ukraine's domestic defense capabilities. However, Rutte acknowledged that while NATO allies have provided 99% of the military aid pledged to Ukraine, it is still insufficient. He referred to the NATO summit in Washington last summer, where leaders agreed to ensure the alliance could supply Ukraine with more equipment, training, and support.
