Rodri, midfielder for Manchester City, is facing a misconduct charge following his comments after his side’s Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Round 24.

The match ended in a stalemate, but controversy surrounded a key refereeing decision during the game.

According to The Sun, a spokesperson for The Football Association confirmed that Rodri has been charged over remarks made in a post-match media interview.

“It is alleged that the midfielder acted improperly during a post-match interview by making comments that imply bias and question the integrity of the match official, contrary to FA Rule E3.1,” the spokesperson said.

“Rodri has until Wednesday, 18 February, to provide his response.”

The report added that the FA’s disciplinary committee has opened a formal investigation into the matter.

Rodri’s Comments

Speaking after the game, Rodri claimed the referee had cost his team two valuable points by failing to award a foul by Dominic Solanke on Marc Guehi in the build-up to Tottenham’s opening goal.

“It’s a clear foul,” Rodri said. “VAR exists for a reason. These small details are what make the difference.”

If found guilty, the Spanish midfielder could face a suspension or financial penalty under FA regulations.
