On Tuesday, the Iranian authorities said for the first time since the protests against the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran, that more than 300 people had been killed during the unrest in the country since mid-September.

Iran has been witnessing protests since the death of Iranian Kurdish Mahsa Amini, 22, on September 16, after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran for violating the strict dress code in the Islamic Republic. The authorities consider these demonstrations "riots" instigated by Western countries.

Thousands of Iranians and about 40 foreigners have been arrested and more than 2,000 people have been charged, according to the judicial authorities in Iran.

Of the defendants, six were sentenced to death in the first degree, pending the Supreme Court's decision on appeal.

"Everyone in the country has been affected by the death of this woman. I do not have the latest numbers, but I believe that more than 300 martyrs have fallen in the country, including children, since This incident occurred,” Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guards, said in a video recording published by the Mehr news agency.

The toll includes dozens of security personnel who were killed in confrontations with demonstrators or in assassinations, according to the Iranian authorities.

The Human Rights Organization in Iran, based in Oslo, reported a different death toll in Tehran due to the authorities' suppression of the protests, which amounted to about 416 people.

The organization reports that its outcome includes victims of violence related to protests against the background of Amini's death and separate unrest in the Sistan-Baluchestan province (southeast).
