Reports: Matip Considers Retiring from Football

Former Liverpool star Joel Matip considered his retirement from football after leaving Liverpool.

German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten claimed the former Liverpool defender decided to hang his boots just months after he left Anfield after spending eight years.

The player sustained a severe injury late in 2023, and made him out of action for the majority of the 2023/2024 season. So, he wasn't a key player for Jürgen Klopp.

Matip was most recently connected with a return to Schalke 04, his former club, before German outlet reported that the player is considering retirement.

During his run with Liverpool, he won Premier League title for 2019-2020 season, FA Cup for 2021–2022 season, EFL Cup for 2021–2022 season, FA Community Shield 2022, UEFA Champions League for 2018–2019 season, and UEFA Super Cup: 2019.
