German coach Jürgen Klopp is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of the Germany national football team after reaching a preliminary agreement with the German Football Association (DFB), paving the way for his return to coaching following his departure from Liverpool.

The DFB confirmed in an official statement that president Bernd Neuendorf and vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke held extensive talks with Klopp in New York, where both sides agreed on the main terms of a potential contract.

According to Sky Germany, the proposed deal would keep Klopp in charge of Die Mannschaft until the end of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Only a few final details remain unresolved, including ending Klopp's current contract with Red Bull, where he serves as Head of Global Soccer under an agreement that runs until 2029.

The German federation said negotiations will continue next week, expressing confidence that a final agreement can be reached once contractual matters with Red Bull are settled.

The DFB added that any final appointment will require approval from Red Bull's supervisory board and shareholders before an official announcement can be made.

If finalized, Klopp will take charge of Germany on a long-term basis, with the aim of restoring the national team to major international success after several inconsistent tournament campaigns.
