Inter Milan have turned down an initial offer from FC Barcelona for defender Alessandro Bastoni, insisting that negotiations will only progress if a bid of at least 60 million euros is submitted.
According to transfer expert Orazio Accomando of Sport Mediaset, Barcelona’s opening proposal stood at 45 million euros, a figure Inter immediately deemed insufficient for one of their key defensive assets.
Despite the rejection, the approach marks the beginning of what could develop into one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer sagas.
For the first time, Bastoni himself is reportedly open to considering a move, adding a new dynamic to the situation after previously showing strong loyalty to the Italian club.
Barcelona have already outlined personal terms to the player, offering a contract worth 7 million euros per season plus bonuses.
The proposed deal represents a notable increase on his current salary at Inter and signals the Catalan club’s determination to secure the defender’s signature.
Inter, however, remain firm in their valuation. Club officials view Bastoni as central to their long-term plans and are unwilling to lower their asking price without a significantly improved offer.
Barcelona are also believed to be referencing the defender’s recent challenges in Italy during discussions, including his red card in the World Cup play-off and fallout from an on-field incident involving Pierre Kalulu, in an effort to strengthen their case.
With positions established on both sides, negotiations are now underway. The outcome could play a decisive role in shaping Inter’s summer transfer strategy and the composition of their squad for the upcoming season.
