FC Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with head coach Hansi Flick to extend his contract, according to Spanish media reports on Friday.
Flick, who is currently tied to Barcelona until the summer of 2027, has agreed in principle to remain at the club, with the new deal expected to run until 2028, including an option for an additional year.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that only final details remain, with the coach’s agent set to arrive in Barcelona next week to complete the agreement. Discussions are also expected to address the future of striker Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had initially pushed for a longer extension until 2029, but Flick preferred a shorter deal, with flexibility to review the situation at the end of the 2027 to 2028 season.
The new contract is expected to be officially signed once Barcelona secure the La Liga title. The club could clinch the trophy as early as next week depending on their result against Osasuna and Real Madrid’s outcome against Espanyol, or in the following round after El Clasico.
Flick has enjoyed a highly successful spell since taking charge, winning a domestic treble in his first season and adding further silverware this campaign, reinforcing his position as a key figure in Barcelona’s recent resurgence.
