Media reports on Sunday revealed the possibility of relocating the 2026 Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain, which is currently scheduled to be held in Qatar.
The Finalissima, officially known as the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, is set to take place on March 27 at Lusail Stadium.
However, recent regional developments have cast uncertainty over the venue. The Qatar Football Association recently announced the suspension of sporting activities indefinitely following escalating tensions related to the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
According to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, the match is, for now, expected to proceed as scheduled. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation in the coming days.
The report added that there remains a possibility the match could be moved outside Qatar should the current situation persist.
The fixture will see the Argentina national football team, reigning Copa América champions, face the Spain national football team, winners of UEFA Euro 2024, in a showdown to determine the champion of the two continents.
Separately, the Egypt national football team is also scheduled to play a friendly match against Spain on March 30 in Qatar.
Several Gulf nations have suspended sporting competitions amid the ongoing regional tensions, increasing uncertainty around major scheduled events in the region.
