Reports: 2025/2026 LaLiga Season May Kick off on August 15

On Tuesday, media reports indicated that the preliminary date for the new LaLiga season, 2025/2026, is August 15. 

The news was reported by the prestigious Spanish outlet AS. The outlet added that setting the dates of the new season are challenging due to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. 

According to AS, La Liga and the players' union are still working to finalize the schedule for the upcoming season, holding intensive consultations with the Spanish Football Federation.

The proposed start date for La Liga is August 15, 2025, though it still requires official approval from the concerned parties.

AS added there’s a preliminary agreement to postpone one or two rounds for any Spanish team that reaches the semifinals or final of the Club World Cup, in order to prevent fatigue and allow for adequate rest before the domestic season starts.

The paper added that the involvement of two major teams like Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the global tournament is unprecedented, and will significantly impact their preseason preparations, unlike international tournaments like the World Cup or the Euros, which only affect individual players.

The report concluded that the participation of both Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the Club World Cup necessitates adjustments to the LaLiga calendar to maintain competitive balance, under exceptional circumstances that demand organizational flexibility.
