On Thursday, Egypt's air forces held a joint exercise with the French side, according to the Egyptian Armed Forces.

Egyptian Armed Forces' spokesman said in a statement that the “Series of exercises improved our interoperability and is a testimony to the flexibility of both our Air forces."

"The exercise was held at an Egyptian airbase and included offensive and defensive drills and combat exercises using the latest jet fighters," the statement added.

The spokesman also explained that the two Air forces exchanged training and technical planning knowledge, executive and leadership skills, as well as control strategies.

The purpose of this training was to polish the skills of officers participating in various defense operations, exchanging combat and field expertise, improving readiness to carry out any joint tasks under different circumstances, and protecting the vital and economic targets in the mediterranean sea and their territories against any potential threats.

In 2020, French soldiers conducted around 100 military exercises in Egypt.

Earlier this year French and Egyptian aircraft carriers, the Charles Degol and the Gamal Abdel Naser conducted joint operations to demonstrate freedom of navigation in the Miderian Sea, where territorial disputes have flared between Turkey and its neighbors.

Egyptian authorities inked an agreement to purchase 30 Rafale fighter jets from France, according to the country's armed forces spokesperson early May.

In the same context, Egypt's Armed Forces said on Facebook that an agreement was signed between the Egyptian Armed Forces and France's Dassault Aviation SA.

The defense ministers’ talks in Egypt also covered joint training for both countries’ armed forces and the provision of assistance for the ongoing process of reform and modernization of the Egyptian army.

It's worth mentioning that Egypt and France have carried out several joint military exercises in the last months, and they plan to hold a two-plus-two ministerial dialogue later this year to build on their cooperative progress, according to domestic reports.
