The ancient English-language Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star said on Wednesday that it was closing after its administration was impacted by the current economic crises in the country.

Due to the financial pressures and current circumstances prevailing in Lebanon, Daily Star in its print form will come to an end no later than the last edition this week, according to Lebanon's media.

In a message, the well-known media platform informed its staff that they will all be laid off, joining a list of Lebanese media outlets that have been forced to close or scale back due to financial pressures.

In response to this issue, Arab media organizations and journalists cited the forced closure of  Daily Star as the blackest day for the media industry in Lebanon’s recent history.

Founded in 1952 by Lebanese journalist Kamel Mrowa, the afflicted newspaper is currently owned by the family of the renowned Sunni Muslim politician and former prime minister Saad al-Hariri.
