Paris Saint-Germain suffered a surprise 3–1 defeat away to Stade Rennais on Friday evening in the opening fixture of Round 22 of the Ligue 1.
Rennes took control in the first half, going ahead in the 34th minute through Jordanian forward Mousa Al-Taamari, who fired a powerful shot into the right corner beyond the PSG goalkeeper.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 69th minute when Esteban Lepaul rose to meet a cross with a superb header.
PSG responded quickly, with Ousmane Dembele pulling one back just two minutes later in the 71st minute to briefly revive the visitors’ hopes.
However, Breel Embolo sealed the win for Rennes in the 81st minute, finishing off a decisive counterattack to complete a memorable evening for the home side.
Despite the defeat, PSG remain top of the Ligue 1 standings with 51 points, while Rennes climb to fifth place with 34 points.
