Remembering Wadih El-Safi on His 101st Birth Anniv.

Today marks the late veteran actor Wadih El-Safi's 101st birth anniversary.

The late veteran Wadih El-Safi is one of the biggest names in the Lebanese music industry. Born in 1921, El-Safi cemented his place as one of the top singers, composers, and actors in the Arab world pretty early on in his career.

He made his artistic debut when he won a vocal competition sponsored by Radio Lebanon.

His versatility, skill, wit, and charm earned him many fans worldwide, who love his performances in films like Enta Omri', 'laily El-Shawk, The Big Show, and ''Mawal', starring Sabbah.

The late star is well-known for his mawawil (an improvised singing style) of 'Ataba, Mijana, and Abu el Zuluf. 

His powerful voice reverberated across the world as he toured internationally from Brazil to Europe. In addition, he collaborated with some of the Arab world’s most famous singers like Mohammed Abdul-Wahhab, Farid al-Atrash and Fayrouz and continued to compose music throughout his life.

He also featured in several plays, such as  "Sahrt Hob", "Madint El-Farah, and Mawsm El-Ez".

His famous albums and songs include "Lebnan Ya Ote'et Sama", Inta Omri (2000), (Ark 21, 2000), (Elef Records), Wetdallou Bkheir, Rouh ya zaman al madi atfal qana, "W Kberna" Duet with Najwa Karam (2002), Chante Le Liban, Wadi El Safi / Legends Of The 20th Century, Mersal El Hawa, Mahrajan Al Anwar, Youghani Loubnan, and Ajmal El Aghani.

In 2013, he breathed his last at Bellevue Medical Center in  Mansourieh, Lebanon.

He was much beloved in his country, which has issued postage stamps bearing his likeness. 

“His passing is a loss to the nation and every Lebanese home," said Lebanese President Michel Suleiman. “He embodied the nation through his art.”
