Today, June 22, marks the 28th death anniversary of remarkable director Atif Al-Taib, who is regarded as one of the greatest Egypt's film-makers of all time.

Among the many talented directors and filmmakers who have captivated the film industry with their brilliant performances, Al-Taib is a name to be remembered. His legacy of 21 movies cemented as landmarks in Egyptian cinema.

Al-Taib was born on 26 December 1947, in Sohag province, Upper Egypt. Arguably his finest films are 'Leila Sakhina (1995)', 'Gallipoli (1981)' and "El Zamar (1985)'.

His breakthrough came with "Sawak Al-Atutbis" (Bus Driver), in 1983, starring Nour Sherif and Hassan Hossni.

His films often depicted the struggles of ordinary people.

He directed several films that spoke of enlightened ideas in relation to the status of vulnerable people and women in patriarchal and conservative societies.

AL-Taib and the actor Nour Sherif worked together for almost 15 years, the last time in 1995, when they made 'Laila Sakhna' (The Hot Night).

His last work was 'Gabr Khwater' (1996), starring Sherihan.

In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded at Venice Film Festival and Cairo Film Festival.

Unfortunately, the legendary director breathed his last on 23 June 1995.
