Remembering Amin Elhenadi on His 98th Birth Anniversary

Today, July 3 marks the 98th birth anniversary of the late actor Amin Elhenadi, who is more than a comic genius.

He starred in more than 40 cinematic works and won outstanding appreciation and fame for his comic roles in several films.

Born on July 7, 1925, he was also one of the most prominent and iconic actors ever, having risen to fame in the black-and-white era of Egyptian cinema history.

The remarkable actor, who graced Egyptian cinema with his art and charisma, Elhenadi was sorely missed by millions of his fans.

He was well-known for his seminal works, such as The Funny, the Gentleman and the Greedy, We're the Paramedics, My Loyal Friend, Friendly Visit, and The Most Beautiful Meeting In The World.

The remarkable actor was born in the Shubra district in Cairo, to a middle-class family. In the 1930s, he enrolled in Shubra’s School. While in school, he developed an interest in theater and made his public acting debut at a school concert.

After Elhenadi graduated from Ain Shams University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports, he started his career with a renowned comedian Abdel Monaam Madbouly and the late star Mohamed Ahmed ElMasry in the stand-up comedy show ‘Sa'a Le Albak’, which had its heyday in the 1960s.

The band of Sa'a Le Albak' performed in several plays and films as well as presenting their routines and sketches, tailor-made to their traits and abilities.

In the 1960s, he was one of the most popular comedian film stars, starring in films such as One in a Million, 7 Days in Heaven, 'Nashal Raghm 'Anfuh', 'Gharam Fe Al-Karnak'.

Later on, Elhenadi joined the Television Theatre in 1968, where he was acting in dozens of dramatic, classical, and romantic plays on stage.

During this period, he met Fouad Elmohandess and Adel Imam, both big names in the comedy world. Soon, he started getting recognized, and bigger roles came his way.

Despite being a comedian in many films, he was known as a serious man in various TV series. He played major roles in famous plays such as 'Alearis Wa'ana', 'Aaila Saaida Gidan' and 'Lawlita'.

His last film was ‘Al-Kitar (The Train), in 1986, in which he starred along with the renowned actress Mervat Amin, and the late actors Omar ELsherif, Yossif Shaaban, and Salah Nazmy.

Elhenadi died in 1986, leaving fans heartbroken. His death was a big loss for the industry.
