Real Madrid CF have officially announced the date for the club’s first presidential election since 2006, with members set to vote on June 7.
Current president Florentino Pérez, who has held the position since 2009, will face challenger Enrique Riquelme after his candidacy was officially confirmed over the weekend.
Real Madrid’s electoral board confirmed on Tuesday that voting will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Basketball Pavilion in Real Madrid City in Madrid.
The club added that all eligible members included in the electoral roll will receive official notification regarding the process.
Perez called for elections following growing criticism after Real Madrid endured back-to-back seasons without winning a major trophy.
The disappointing run led to protests from supporters targeting both the club president and several star players, including Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham.
Despite the criticism, Perez remains the overwhelming favorite to secure another term due to his long-standing success overseeing one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
Reports also suggest that if Perez wins the election, José Mourinho could return as Real Madrid manager more than a decade after his first spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.
