Real Madrid will take on city rivals Atlético Madrid on Saturday evening in a fiery clash at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, as part of Matchday 7 of the Spanish La Liga season.
Under manager Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid is aiming to extend their perfect start to the campaign after securing six consecutive league wins, including a commanding 4-1 away victory over Levante in the previous round.
The Spanish giants currently sit top of the La Liga table with 18 points, two points ahead of Barcelona.
Los Blancos have scored 14 goals and conceded only three, with French superstar Kylian Mbappé, La Liga’s top scorer, and Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior in excellent form.
Mbappé netted twice against Levante to bring his league tally to seven goals, and nine across all competitions this season.
Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a shaky start under Diego Simeone.
They sit ninth in the standings with just nine points, having recorded two wins, three draws, and one defeat. Their most recent result was a 3-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano.
Historically, Real Madrid has dominated the derby. Out of 240 previous meetings, they hold 123 wins compared to Atlético’s 59, with 58 draws.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains the all-time top scorer in Madrid derbies with 22 goals.
