Real Madrid have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Rodri from Manchester City, according to recent media reports.
Rodri had been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants in recent months, with speculation suggesting that Real Madrid were considering a major bid for the Ballon d'Or-winning midfielder during the summer transfer window.
The reports also noted that Enrique Riquelme previously stated he would have attempted to sign Rodri had he won the club’s presidential election, which was ultimately won by Florentino Perez.
However, British outlet The Athletic reports that Real Madrid have now stepped back from pursuing the 29-year-old, while Manchester City continue to intensify efforts to secure the midfielder’s long-term future with a new contract.
The Spanish club have reportedly reassessed their transfer priorities and are now focusing on recruiting younger midfield talents rather than investing heavily in an experienced player approaching his thirties.
Rodri remains under contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027, giving the Premier League champions a strong position in negotiations.
Despite dealing with injury setbacks during the campaign, Rodri remained an important figure for Manchester City. The Spanish international made 33 appearances across all competitions last season and scored two goals.
His leadership, tactical intelligence, and ability to control matches have made him one of the most influential midfielders in world football, but for now, a move to Real Madrid appears increasingly unlikely.
