Trent Alexander-Arnold, former Liverpool player and current Real Madrid player, paid a heartfelt tribute to his late former teammate Diogo Jota ahead of his emotional trip to Anfield ahead of Real Madrid's game against the Reds on Tuesday.

Arnold is preparing to face Liverpool as an opponent for the first time since leaving the club last summer to join Real Madrid.

Just weeks after Arnold’s transfer to Madrid in June, Liverpool received devastating news in July, the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a car accident in Spain’s Zamora province.

The Real Madrid delegation, led by head coach Xabi Alonso, who is a former Liverpool player, honored Jota’s memory before the match by laying a wreath at his memorial outside Anfield.

Arnold, who shared the pitch with Jota from 2020 to 2025, left a deeply emotional message alongside a PlayStation controller, placed next to the flowers.

The English full-back chose the symbolic gift because of Jota’s well-known love for PlayStation gaming.

Jota was famous among teammates for his passion for video games, and even dedicated one of his goal celebrations to it, mimicking the act of holding a controller in his hands.

In his note, Arnold wrote, “My mate Diogo, you are missed much but still so loved. Yours and Andrea's memory will always live on. I smile every time I think about you and will always remember the great times we shared. Miss you mate, every day."
