Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that Brazilian forward Rodrygo has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious knee injury.
In an official statement, the Spanish club confirmed that the player had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and damage to the external meniscus in his right knee.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff.
The club added that Rodrygo will begin his rehabilitation program in the coming days. However, he is expected to miss the remainder of the season with Real Madrid and will also be unavailable to represent Brazil national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Rodrygo had recently returned from a previous injury and appeared as a substitute in Real Madrid’s match against Getafe CF.
The Brazilian forward fell in the 66th minute after a heavy challenge but managed to finish the match before the severity of the injury was later confirmed.
In the La Liga standings, Real Madrid currently sit second with 63 points, four points behind leaders FC Barcelona after 27 rounds.
