Reports have revealed that Real Madrid has officially decided not to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony taking place this Monday, September 22, in Paris.
According to The Athletic, club president Florentino Pérez informed the event organizers of the decision directly.
The move signals a complete boycott, with neither players nor members of the coaching staff set to appear.
The decision stems from ongoing tensions between Real Madrid and the Ballon d’Or organizers, as the club continues to feel its players have been treated unfairly.
The boycott comes despite the presence of Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappé among this year’s nominees.
Still, the club remained firm in its stance of non-attendance.
This is not the first time Real Madrid has voiced disapproval.
Pérez has previously criticized the voting system and the presentation of the award, making this boycott a clear act of protest from one of the world’s most powerful football clubs.
Last year, Real Madrid also expressed frustration when Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior was overlooked for the prize, which instead went to Manchester City’s Rodri.
