Racing de Santander have secured a long-awaited return to the Spanish top flight after a 14-year absence, sealing promotion to La Liga following a commanding 4–1 victory over Real Valladolid at the Estadio El Sardinero.
The result, achieved on matchday 40 of the Segunda División season, sparked emotional celebrations in Santander as supporters flooded the pitch at full-time to mark the club’s historic achievement.
Valladolid initially threatened early in the match, but Racing gradually took control. The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Asier Villalibre produced a spectacular bicycle kick following a corner from Íñigo Vicente, sending the home crowd into celebration.
Real Valladolid managed to level the score before half-time through Jawad, briefly halting Racing’s momentum. However, the hosts regained control in the second half when Andrés Martín converted a penalty after a foul that also resulted in a red card for the visiting side.
With Valladolid reduced to ten men, Racing capitalized on their advantage. Villalibre turned provider for Andrés Martín’s second goal of the night before Suleiman sealed the emphatic win with a stoppage-time strike.
At the final whistle, El Sardinero erupted as thousands of fans invaded the pitch in scenes of jubilation, celebrating a return to Spain’s top division under head coach José Alberto López.
