The Qatari government announced that it will require football fans at the 2022 World Cup to receive coronavirus vaccines to participate in the matches.

"Qatar is trying to secure one million doses of vaccine to immunize fans wishing to attend the World Cup," said PM Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.

State media quoted Sheikh Khaled as saying on Sunday, "When the 2022 World Cup starts, most countries in the world will have vaccinated their citizens. Due to the possibility that some countries will not be able to vaccinate all their citizens, Qatar will not allow fans to enter stadiums without receiving a full vaccination against the virus.”

Qatar recorded 585 deaths and 220,800 cases during the outbreak of the pandemic.

The state is the first country to host the World Cup in the Middle East, scheduled for November 21, 2022.
