Sheik Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, witnessed the opening ceremony of the AFC Asian Cup tonight at Lusail Stadium.
The first game of the tournament, hosted by Qatar, is taking place between the host country, the holder of the title, and Lebanon at 6 pm.
The theme of the opening ceremony was inspired by the famous fables Kalilah and Demnah. Kalilah and Demna contained various Asian stories and myths that represented the cultural diversity in the continent.
In addition, the ceremony included various shows, including a fireworks show.
During the ceremony, the leader of the Qatari team passed the recital of the tournament's oath to the leader of the Palestinian team leader as a sign of support to Palestine and Gaza under the fierce attacks of the Israeli forces.
This edition of the tournament is the first one to see the participation of 24 teams.
