Qatar became the third Arab nation to exit the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday evening at Seattle Stadium in the final round of Group B fixtures.
The loss confirmed Qatar’s elimination from the tournament, joining Tunisia and Jordan as the Arab teams to bow out of the competition after the group stage.
Bosnia and Herzegovina took control of the match in the first half, opening the scoring in the 29th minute through Kerim Alajbegovic.
The Europeans doubled their lead five minutes later when Sultan Al-Brake inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Qatar responded before the break as veteran forward Hassan Al-Haydos pulled one back in the 43rd minute to reduce the deficit and keep his side in contention heading into the second half.
However, Bosnia sealed the victory in the 80th minute when Ermin Mahmic found the net to make it 3-1 and secure a crucial three points.
With the win, Bosnia finished third in Group B, level on points with second-placed Canada but behind on goal difference, and must now wait to see whether they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
Qatar, meanwhile, ended their campaign at the bottom of the group with just one point. Their tournament began with a historic 1-1 draw against Switzerland, the first World Cup point in the nation’s history, but heavy defeats to Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina ended any hopes of progression.
The result marks a disappointing end to Qatar’s World Cup journey and adds to the early exits of Arab sides at the tournament, a major blow for fans hoping to see stronger regional representation in the knockout rounds.
