Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the latest developments in Palestine.

During the phone conversation, the two leaders discussed the Palestinian cause, the bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Putin stressed Russia's firm position in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, adding that his country will provide Palestine and other importers in the Middle East with all their needs of Russian wheat.

In the same vein, Putin expressed his rejection of the Israeli practices that prevent worshippers from freely accessing the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, WAFA News Agency reported.

On his part, President Abbas briefed his Russian counterpart on the daily incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israelis who act brutally towards the innocent worshipers in flagrant violation of international law and the legal and historical status quo.

Abbas also highlighted the need to respect international law and work to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem under the auspices of the International Quartet and by the United Nations resolutions.

In addition, the Palestinian President supported Putin's position on pursuing efforts to find a negotiated settlement to the Ukrainian crisis.
