Tens of thousands of people protested against President Jair Bolsonaro and demanded impeachment of his government for handling the coronavirus pandemic, throughout Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and dozens of other cities across Brazil in protest of it.

Mr Bolsonaro has underestimated the severity of the virus during the pandemic; he is not vaccinated and usually move without a mask.

In Brazil, a country of 212 million people, some 597,000 people died from the virus.

Protesters complained of food and electricity  price against rising inflation.

“It is very painful to see that health and education are being destroyed, and there are many starving people in the country,” Marilena Magnano, a 75-year-old retiree, said.

“We need Bolsonaro out of the government, his time has passed.”

While the approval rating of the President declined steadily during the year, Dilma Rousseff remains more popular than the previous presidents being accused.

The leftist parties and certain union moves linked to the former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's Workers' Party promoted the protests on Saturday, less so than those held last month in support of Bolsonaro.

In the presidential vote next October, Mr. da Silva is generally anticipated to run against Bolsonaro.

Since the start of Mr Bolsonaro's administration, over 130 requests have been filed, but the speaker from the lower house, Arthur Lira, and his predecessor have refused to open proceedings.

The main reason why analysts consider that there is unlikely to be enough pressure from Mr Lira to open the prosecution procedure is the opposition pision.
