On Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italian energy giant Eni, along with senior company officials, to discuss the ongoing partnership between Egypt and Eni.
The meeting was also attended by Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badrawi.
During the meeting, Descalzi highlighted Eni’s commitment to expanding its role in Egypt’s energy sector, focusing on both local production and exports. He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to facilitate foreign investments and emphasized Eni’s desire to remain a key player in the Egyptian market, given the promising opportunities in the energy sector.
President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the strong relationship between Egypt and Eni, describing it as a reflection of the broader ties between Egypt and Italy. El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s ongoing efforts to enhance the investment climate and unlock new energy opportunities. He praised Eni’s commitment to corporate social responsibility through its support of various development projects across the country.
Both sides discussed Eni’s ongoing projects in Egypt, which include exploration, development, and maintaining high production rates from key fields. Eni officials also provided updates on their work in energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning with Egypt’s vision for a fair energy transition.
Descalzi reaffirmed Eni’s position as one of the largest energy operators in Egypt and underscored the company’s focus on balancing domestic production and international exports. He also praised Egypt’s strategic initiatives to promote investor-friendly policies and enhance infrastructure development.
The meeting highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, with Egypt seeking to maximize its energy potential and leverage its strategic location for energy exports to Europe and beyond. Eni’s role in Egypt has been central to boosting natural gas production and supporting the country's ambition to become a regional energy hub.
