Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have jointly affirmed their commitment to supporting the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The two leaders met in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, during President El-Sisi's visit to the country, following an invitation from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.
In a joint political declaration issued at the conclusion of their talks, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy outlined the key agreements reached between the two nations. The declaration reaffirmed the importance of Somalia's sovereignty over its entire territory and rejected any unilateral actions that could threaten the country’s unity.
Both leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Somalia to enhance the capabilities of Somali state institutions in facing internal and external challenges. A key priority will be empowering the Somali Federal National Army to effectively combat terrorism, secure Somalia’s borders, and preserve its territorial integrity.
