Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Germany across all fields, during a phone call on Friday with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy said the call addressed ongoing Egyptian efforts, in coordination with relevant international parties, to end the war in Gaza.
President El-Sisi briefed Chancellor Merz on the details of the agreement reached on October 8 in Sharm El-Sheikh and presented Egypt’s vision for the next phase, which centers on implementing the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
El-Sisi stressed the importance of preserving the role and status of the Palestinian Authority and creating the necessary conditions for the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy and UN resolutions. In this context, the Egyptian president invited Chancellor Merz to attend a ceremony Egypt will host to mark the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Chancellor Merz expressed Germany’s appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in brokering the ceasefire and affirmed Berlin’s full support for the agreement, voicing hope that it would represent a step toward lasting peace in the Middle East. He also welcomed Egypt’s initiative to host the upcoming conference on Gaza’s reconstruction.
According to the presidential spokesperson, the two leaders also discussed broader aspects of Egyptian-German relations as well as Egypt’s ties with the European Union. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Germany in various sectors, emphasizing the strategic importance of the partnership between Cairo and Berlin.
