On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from his Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Christodoulides, where the two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the escalating tensions in the region.

According to a statement from Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, both Presidents reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus across various sectors, particularly in economic development, energy, and electrical connectivity. They also emphasized the importance of the Tripartite Cooperation Mechanism with Greece, which has played a pivotal role in fostering regional partnerships.

During the call, the Presidents also addressed the pressing issues affecting the Middle East, particularly the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Lebanon. President El-Sisi reiterated the urgent need for all parties involved to exercise restraint, calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation. He expressed deep concern over the potentially devastating consequences of continued violence on the aspirations of regional populations for stability, peace, and development.

President Christodoulides praised Egypt’s proactive efforts in restoring stability and promoting dialogue in the region. He stressed Cyprus’ commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at fostering peace and security in the Middle East.

The conversation between the two leaders reflects the deepening partnership between Egypt and Cyprus, which has seen significant growth in recent years, particularly through the Tripartite Cooperation Mechanism with Greece. This partnership has focused on strategic sectors such as energy, regional security, and economic cooperation. The two nations have also worked closely on various regional initiatives aimed at boosting cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
