President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi chaired on Tuesday the 21st summit of the Common Market For Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government at the New Administrative Capital (NAC).

"During the summit, Sisi will receive the presidency of the COMESA from the President of Madagascar," Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.

"In addition, he will launch the new Regional Strategy for Development of Statistics (RSDS) for 2021 – 2025, which aims to deepen economic, and regional integration as well as development among the members' states, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA)," the spokesman added.

It is worth mentioning that, the theme of this year’s summit is “Building Resilience Through Strategic Digital Economic Integration,” Egypt's Trade minister Nevine Gamea and COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe announced during a press conference held in Cairo in preparation for the summit.

The summit this year aims to rally the 21 COMESA member states to safeguard and advance their regional integration agenda using digital platforms to facilitate doing business and enhance their resilience in the face of economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gamea said.
