The English Premier League has once again established itself as Europe’s most popular domestic competition, recording the highest attendance figures among the continent’s top five leagues.
According to data published by UEFA, a total of 233 million fans attended matches across Europe’s football leagues during the 2024/25 season.
The Premier League led the way, attracting 114 million spectators, a 2.5% increase compared to the previous campaign.
The league’s global appeal continues to be fueled by its star players and powerhouse clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
Germany’s Bundesliga ranked second with 11.8 million fans, followed closely by Italy’s Serie A with 11.7 million.
Spain’s La Liga came in fourth, drawing 11.4 million spectators, representing a 3% rise from the 2023/24 season.
France’s Ligue 1 attracted 8.5 million fans, while the Dutch Eredivisie recorded 6.1 million, Turkey’s Süper Lig 4 million, and Scotland’s Premiership 3.9 million.
UEFA noted that 30 domestic leagues across Europe reported higher attendance than the previous season.
Nine of them saw measurable growth, while 17 leagues recorded their best turnout in at least a decade.
European competitions also saw strong growth. The Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League combined brought in 20 million fans, a rise of 13% compared to the year before.
Additionally, around 500,000 fans attended UEFA Women’s Champions League matches live.
Domestic cup competitions also enjoyed robust support. Tournaments such as the Copa del Rey in Spain and the FA Cup in England drew 14 million spectators, reflecting a 2.8% increase over the previous season.
